The Argentine midfielder stated that Liverpool’s uncharacteristic errors were the difference as Fulham punished the Reds for their mistakes.
Despite a less-than-impressive opening start to the match for Liverpool, the Red’s took a lead in the 14th minute thanks to a sensational wunderstrike from Alexis Mac Allister. The lead provided by the Argentine midfielder would not last long, however, as Liverpool were undone by a series of mistakes that allowed Fulham to charge out to a 3-1 lead at the end of the first half. In a post-match interview, Mac Allister was honest in his assessment of Liverpool’s first half, stating that his side struggled to find themselves.
“I think in the first half we had 25 or 30 minutes where we couldn’t find ourselves. We made a lot of mistakes that we normally don’t do. That’s why we lost this game. They scored three goals, we got punished and after it was really hard to come back.”
The loss was only the second of the Premier League for Liverpool so far this season as the Reds have battled back to nick a point or storm back for a win on several occasions. Against Fulham, there was just not quite enough magic to overcome the deficit. Mac Allister felt that this was just an off day for his side and they will perform better next time out.
“When you get to this stage of the tournament every mistake you do is hard and you get punished. I’m pretty sure that we have a team where we have a lot of players with experience. Today wasn’t a good experience. But I’m pretty sure we will come back stronger and in the next game we will show what we can do.”
Liverpool still have an 11 point lead at the top of the table with 7 matches eft to play. Mac Allister says the squad are not taking their cushion for granted as the Reds look to rebound with strong performances and results to ensure the title.
“I think there is going to be a lot of people saying that this Premier League is done, but in the dressing room we know that it’s not. We still have a lot of games coming up and all of them are really difficult in a league like this. Everyone is fighting for something. We have to make sure that we play the way we know and play the way we want and not make the mistakes we’ve done today.”
