The Argentine midfielder’s father and agent says the 26-year-old is happy at Liverpool and doesn’t expect a transfer would be a possibility this summer.
Despite topping the table, Liverpool look set for a summer of change, with Trent Alexander-Arnold a near certainty to join Real Madrid on a free transfer and plenty of speculation around some first team players including striker Darwin Nuñez and winger Luis Diaz.
One player who seems certain to be in manager Arne Slot’s plans beyond the current season, though, is midfielder Alexis Mac Allister—and despite past links with Real Madrid, the player’s father, Carlos Mac Allister, doesn’t see a move for his son this summer.
“For now, I don’t think so,” Mac Allister’s father said. “Time will tell, but Alexis is very happy where he is. He speaks English well, understands and converses with people. I think it’s been the best move he could have made which is why the adaptation was easier.”
Mac Allister’s father represents the player and settled on Liverpool as the right move after getting to know Jürgen Klopp, who was in charge for the midfielder’s first season at the club—and who Mac Allister, Sr., believes will get back into managing sooner or later.
“I don’t think he’s retired,” he noted. “Before the last World Cup, I said it wouldn’t be Messi’s last, and in the same way I don’t think Klopp has retired and is only taking a break. Being the manager of River or Boca for six years is very difficult, and it’s the same for Liverpool.
“During all that time, you put aside some family things, so at some point you need to stop because family has to come before everything else and it’s time for a break. Then, after that, maybe he’ll come back.”
