Liverpool FC striker Alexander Isak has been called up to the Swedish national team, despite not featuring for the Reds since 22 October because of a groin problem. The 26-year-old is now set to participate in Sweden’s World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland on 15 November and Slovenia on 18 November. These will be the first games he will play for new Sweden manager Graham Potter.
Previous boss Jon Dahl Tomasson was sacked after Sweden’s 1-0 defeat to Kosovo on 13 October, which eliminated the possibility of automatic qualification from Group B. Sweden currently sit at the bottom of the group with just one point from four matches. Despite this, the team could still secure a play-off spot for the World Cup thanks to their recent performance in the Nations League.
Hopefully, this means that Isak’s injury isn’t all that serious and that he’s already close to returning to action, something that Liverpool FC head coach Arne Slot already hinted at during the pressers for the Real Madrid game, suggesting that Isak may be in the squad this weekend for the trip to Manchester City.
