Super Eagles’ Samuel Chukwueze has laid his mother to rest in Abia State, in a deeply emotional ceremony that brought together family, friends, and NFF officials to pay their final respects.
Images from the burial showed a solemn atmosphere as mourners gathered to support the football star during one of the most difficult moments.
One particularly touching scene captured relatives holding a framed portrait of the deceased while surrounded by loved ones dressed in coordinated traditional attire.

Chukwueze, who rose from humble beginnings to become one of Nigeria’s most recognizable footballers, has often spoken about the importance of family support throughout his journey to the top of the game.
Those close to the player say his mother played a significant role in encouraging and supporting his dreams long before he became a household name.
Her belief in him during his formative years helped lay the foundation for a career that would eventually take him to some of the biggest stages in world football.
The burial drew sympathy from fans across Nigeria and beyond, with many taking to social media to offer prayers and condolences.
Super Eagles teammates Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidozie Awaziem attended the ceremony.
Another prominent figure in attendance was NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau who shared messages of encouragement as Chukwueze navigates the pain of losing a parent.

While football achievements often dominate headlines, moments like these shift attention to what matters most away from the pitch.
The occasion was not about trophies, goals, or international appearances, but about honouring the life of a mother whose influence helped shape the man behind the athlete.
As family members gathered in Abia for the final farewell, the day became a celebration of love, legacy, and the enduring bond between a mother and her son.
Chelle drops Chukwueze from Friendlies
Meanwhile, in the Super Eagles squad, head coach Eric Chelle has replaced Chukwueze – on compassionate grounds – with Femi Azeez for Nigeria’s international friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June.

The winger was already left out of the Unity Cup squad, giving room for Azeez.
Azeez was an instant hit, bagging a brace in the 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in the semi-final of the friendly tournament.
On Saturday, the team will face Jamaica in the final, at The Valley, in a repeat of last year’s edition.
