The French club will also name the trophy and training centre after the late manager.

Gérard Houllier left his mark at many a football club across a remarkable career. One of them was Olympique Lyonnais, whom he managed for two years after his stint at Liverpool FC. After a game against AC Ajaccio, Jean-Michel Aulas, the President of Olympique Lyonnais spoke to EuroSport about his plans to pay tribute to the legendary French coach:

It is fitting that a training ground will bear Houllier’s name, as the man was heavily involved in the technical side of things, both as a part of FIFA’s Technical Committee in the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, as well as technical director for the French Football Federation during the 2010 finals. In his full remarks, Aulas remarked that it was important for them to not only remember Gérard’s time in Lyon, but also his achievements in Liverpool and Paris. Hopefully, this celebration will happen at a period after vaccinations for COVID-19 have been rolled out on a massive scale, and fans of both teams will actually be able to attend and celebrate the life of a great manager, and an even better man.
