Liverpool kick off their 2022 FA Cup journey in the midst of a major Covid outbreak that is expected to result in an unusual team selection, but the Reds will likely remain favourites at home in spite of that as they face off against League One outfit Shrewsbury Town after the Reds met them at their stadium in the competition in 2020.
Shrewsbury are regular participants at this stage of the competition—and have been dispatched in it by Premier League opposition in five of the last six seasons. However, they’re no pushovers having taken their opponents to a replay in three of those, and with Liverpool’s Covid situation they will see an opportunity for an upset.
For the Reds, while assistant Pepijn Lijnders and a number of players will be missing, manager Jürgen Klopp is expected back in the dugout after he missed the Chelsea game last week in the league after returning a positive Covid test.
