Former Belgium forward Gert Verheyen has urged Cyriel Dessers to do all he can to join Eredivisie club Feyenoord Rotterdam on a permanent deal, reports PlayPlay.ng.
Dessers endured a torrid time with Genk last season playing second fiddle to compatriot Paul Onuachu.
The 27-year-old is however enjoying a new lease of life at Feyenoord this season after arriving on a season-long deal last summer.

The striker has scored six goals in 24 league appearances for Arne Slot’s side this season.
Dessers has scored another 10 in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
“If you bring Dessers back, Genk should see him as the number one striker. Because if the coach thinks another striker is better, Dessers will be on the bench again,” Gert Verheyen told Het Nieuwsblad, via Walfoot.

“He deserves this chance, but if I was in his place, I would do anything to stay at Feyenoord. Because of the status he has there now. You always have to start from scratch when you go anywhere else.
“Look at (Romelu) Lukaku. He left Inter when he was at the top there. Whereas you always perform better when you know you are appreciated there.”
Feyenoord have until June 1 to make the loan deal permanent.
