Chuka Imasuen, son of former Golden Eaglets winning coach at the maiden FIFA U-17 World Cup in 1985, Sebastian Broderick-Imasuen, says his father is suffering from stroke and diabetes which the family has spent millions, before making it public to ask for support.
Broderick, 84, is a former Nigeria international who starred as a midfielder for the Green Eagles. He represented Nigeria at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico.
He also played for Bendel Insurance. His free-kick goal ensured that Bendel Insurance won the the 1972 Challenge Cup, beating Mighty Jets 3-2 in the final played in Ibadan.

Broderick-Imasuen also served as assistant coach in Super Eagle during Clemens Westerhof’s time as the  Technical Adviser.

The octogenarian also handled Bendel Insurance, El Kanemi Warriors and Udoji United, among other clubs during his coaching days.
Chuka says of his Broderick’s ill-health situation: “He is currently at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. He had partial stroke sometimes last year, but it has deteriorated to full stroke. He is also managing diabetes as well. Currently, he can’t communicate properly.
“We have done series of tests, it’s something that has to do with his brain. He is incoherent and unconscious. He is on oxygen at the moment.
“We are hoping for the best. It’s not been easy. He is on drugs because of diabetes.
“The doctors said his lung is weak and he can’t breathe on his own, so they have to put him on oxygen.”
Chuka added that the family have reached out to the Edo State Government, but are yet receive any support.

“The Edo State Government is aware of his condition. They keep telling us that they will reach out to us, but we are yet to hear from them,” he added.
“We would like to say a big thank you to one of his former players, Kayode Keshinro. He has been of great support so far. We hope others can come out and lend their support to us.”
