The Reds seek redemption Sunday against Newcasted
Liverpool will have had a five day break between the disappointment against PSG and Sunday’s League Cup final, but the squad will be taking stock after the dust settles on a remarkably busy period.
Head coach Arne Slot is “optimistic” about Ibrahima Konaté’s chances of starting at Wembley after the center back came off with perceived tiredness in the Champions League on Sunday.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, who looked to pick up a serious injury on Tuesday night, is yet to be assessed fully, but will not feature on Sunday — and other right back options Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley are also sidelined.
Jarell Quansah finds himself as the only backup at both central defense and left back, which is less than ideal for Slot’s men. The Dutchman commented that Curtis Jones is an option for right back, with Wataru Endō another defensive option.
Konaté has himself been managing injury pain this season, and will be assessed in Friday’s training — the team as a whole had Wednesday and Thursday off from training for rest and recovery.
