Liverpool’s dramatic 2-1 victory over West Ham means the Reds are now just six points away from winning the Premier League.
Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over West Ham on Sunday didn’t come easy for the Reds, with a late 86th minute West Ham equalizer requiring an even later 89th minute winner from captain Virgil van Dijk to secure all three points for the Premier League leaders.
Late or not, though, that win took Liverpool 13 points clear at the top of the table with six games left in the 2024-25 season after chasers Arsenal stumbled, dropping points against Brentford in a draw the day before. And it means the Reds are now two wins away.
“It’s getting closer just another two wins,” standout right back Conor Bradley said, reflecting on the weekend’s results after the match. “We just have to keep working now and finish the season as strong as we can, just keep our heads down and keep going.
“It was a difficult second half but the lads stuck together and it was brilliant to get the three points. I thought the first half was really good, but the second we sat off a bit and allowed them to control the game. That can happen even when you’re in a title race.”
Liverpool’s form hasn’t matched their early-season best in recent weeks, but with Arsenal dropping points regularly in recent weeks the gap has only crept wider, and a total of six points is now all that stands between the Reds and winning the title.
Six points won by Liverpool or dropped by Arsenal in six matchweeks. Two more wins for the Reds or two losses or three draws from Arsenal. Do that and Liverpool win number 20 and draw back level with struggling historic rivals Manchester United.
Next weekend, Liverpool travel to Leicester City after Arsenal play Ipswich. The following week, Liverpool host Tottenham—again after Arsenal, with the Gunners hosting Crystal Palace before they play. The countdown to Liverpool’s coronation is truly on.
