The Spanish Giants want the Liverpool right back for the upcoming Club World Cup and are willing to pay.
Throughout the season, Real Madrid have repeatedly made cut-rate offers to get Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold to join them before his current contract expires on June 30th, 2025.
Whether it was in the January transfer window, or their most recent rumored €500,000 attempt, Liverpool brass told Franco’s Club to jog on. Now Real are allegedly preparing a €2 million offer, so Alexander-Arnold can join for the upcoming FIFA Money Grab Club World Cup.
This is genuinely funny to me for multiple reasons: for one, that any club, especially one of Real Madrid’s stature, would take this new hastily and ill-conceived money grab by FIFA seriously (but I guess they have a history of this, see: the early years of the European Cup).
It is also funny that they’d be willing to pay millions to get a player in a few weeks early, only to then run him (and the rest of the squad) into the ground, for a glorified pre-season tournament. Real Madrid will be running on fumes by next April, and I’m here for it.
As for whether Liverpool should accept the offer, it seems like they’ve already gotten Real Madrid to quadruple their initial offer, they might as well hold out a bit longer to fleece Real for as much as they can. Consider it a tapping up fee.
