The Netherlands international is preparing to play a pair of 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Finland and Malta over the next week.

We’re barely into the 2025 off season and Liverpool have already made their first signing, moving rapidly to bring in Leverkusen right back Jeremie Frimpong in a £30M deal to replace the departed Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Now off on international duty with the Dutch national team—which includes new club teammates Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, and Virgil van Dijk—Frimpong spoke about his move, one that also sees him linking up with a Dutch manager in Arne Slot.

“I can’t wait to play under him,” Frimpong said. “I knew he had won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord and of course we also have some Feyenoord guys in the Dutch national team. They have told me good things about him.

“They told me that he is a very caring manager, he encourages you and is close to the players. It is nice, too, that I am going to a new environment where I already know people. What are my goals for next season? I play football to win trophies, so I hope we can do that and make everyone happy.”

Netherlands face Finland on Saturday and Malta next Tuesday in their first 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, with the Dutch playing catch-up in Group G due to their participation in the Nations League during the March international break.

For the time being, that means their upcoming opponents along with Poland and Lithuania have all played a pair of matches, but the Dutch will be heavy favourites to secure automatic qualification when everything is said and done.
