Jota lifts silverware on international duty

Diogo Jota’s Portugal overcame an exciting Spanish team to win the 2025 UEFA Nations League 5-3 on penalties on Sunday.

Jota came on at halftime in extra time and was not amongst Portugal’s penalty takers. Portugal had come from behind to make it 2-2 in regular time, with no goals scored during extra time.

Elsewhere, Ibrahima Konaté was an unused substitute as his French side came in third in the competition.

On Monday, Andy Robertson played 60 minutes in a friendly win against Liechtenstein with Scotland. Tuesday Alexis Mac Allister’s Argentina will take on Luis Díaz’s Colombia in CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying, with Allison’s Brazil and Darwin Núñez’s Uruguay also in action. The Dutch — now Liverpool’s largest international contingent with Virgil Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Jeremie Frimpong — and Japan also feature in European and AFC Qualifiers, respectively.
