There will be no Galatasaray fans present at Anfield for the second leg of Liverpool FC’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 knockout tie.

UEFA has banned Galatasaray for selling tickets to its supporters for one away match for the “throwing of objects, lighting of fireworks and crowd disturbances” during their 3-2 defeat at Juventus on February 25. The Turkish club have also been fined €40,000 (£34.7k) as part of the ruling by UEFA’s Appeals Body. Galatasaray have said it would appeal against UEFA’s decision.

The travelling Gala fans reportedly set off flares and fireworks in the away end at Juventus’ Allianz Stadium last month, and, according to local media reports in Italy, there were clashes with home Juve fans and local police before the game. A father and daughter were taken to the hospital for checks after being hit by a firecracker thrown from the away end.

Liverpool will visit Istanbul for the first leg of the last-16 tie on March 10 before the second leg back on Merseyside eight days later.
