The Real Madrid President claims there is an “ironclad” contract.

Florentino Perez simply cannot talking. The Real Madrid President has been the driving force behind the ill-fated Super League, and even as nine of the 12 teams involved, Liverpool included, jumped ship, Perez remains stalwart in his defense of the idea. He is truly ride-or-die for this cash grab, and if you even sort of look like you could be a journalist, then Mr. Perez will tell you all about it.

This time, though, he might have a point.

Speaking with Spanish outlet AS, Perez said, “I don’t need to explain what a binding contract is, but effectively the clubs cannot leave. Some of them, due to pressure, have said they’re leaving. But this project, or one very similar, will move forward and I hope very soon.”

While that’s likely a bluff, it’s true that getting out of this situation is probably going to take some serious legal maneuverings and serious money for FSG. The Liverpool ECHO reported that each Premier League team will likely lose £8million from leaving the competition.

The Super League is the gift that keeps on giving.

Has a project that lasted only 72 hours ever had this many long term ramifications?
