A two-year contract to keep Salah at Liverpool a full decade is reportedly close to being agreed, with captain Virgil van Dijk also believed to be nearing a new deal.

After spending much of the season waiting on news regarding the expiring contracts of stars Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, the past week has seen movement—or at least public acknowledgement of such—as the duo inch closer to renewed deals.

First came Van Dijk’s public reveal of progress, followed by hints of confirmation from Liverpool’s side. Now, there’s solid suggestions that Salah is close to putting the finishing touches on a new contract, with rumours from Egyptian sources closely followed up with confirmation from the club’s connected journalists.

According to both The Times’ Paul Joyce and The Athletic’s David Ornstein, there has been significant movement in both the Salah and Van Dijk negotiations this week, with a breakthrough in Salah’s case coming soon after that of Van Dijk over the weekend.

In Salah’s case, reports from Egyptian journalist Ismael Mahmoud claim a two-year deal with a salary of around £400k per week is where the sides have settled, and chatter has Van Dijk also likely to end up with a two-year deal when he signs the extension that will keep him at the club beyond the 2024-25 season.

For Salah, now deep into his eighth season at Liverpool Football Club, a two-year deal will likely mean a full decade on Merseyside—and likely a good few more records by the time it’s all said and done—and further enshrine him as one of the club’s all-time greats.
