Sunday was a very good day for Liverpool and Ibrahima Konaté as the Reds wrapped up the 2024-25 Premier League title.

From the moment he was brought on at half-time of the opening game of the Premier League season against Ipswich Town, centre half Ibrahima Konaté has been one of the first names on the team sheet when fit for manager Arne Slot.

The 25-year-old French international has since made 28 league appearances, the most in his now four season run with the Reds with four matches still to play, and after locking up the league title on Sunday he’s unexpectedly in a rather celebratory mood.

“When we won the Carabao Cup last season at Wembley it was amazing but this one was more special because it’s the Premier League,” Konaté said following Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Tottenham that won the Reds their 20th league title.

“After the game I walked into the stadium and just sat in the stand to feel like a fan and I don’t have words to describe what I felt. I just wanted to enjoy the moment on my own. We won it with 60,000 fans and us on the pitch. I was close to crying.

“It’s unbelievable, and we have to really enjoy it. After four seasons I did it, finally. We are in the best league in the world and know how hard it is to win. Since I was young, I watched this league every week, every game, and now to win it is crazy.”

On Sunday, then, they celebrated. It won’t be the last of the celebrating, though, with an away game against Chelsea this Sunday followed by a home game against second-place Arsenal—and with it a guard of honour—the following week.

After that it’s back on the road to face Brighton before returning to Anfield for the final league game of the season on the 25th of May, when Konaté and the Reds will receive the Premier League trophy with the title parade set for the 26th.
