The 21-year-old defender is being linked to several Premier League clubs, according to reports out of Portugal.
Regardless of whether or not Ibou Konate signs a new deal, Liverpool probably need to start some sort of succession planning in defense, for the sad day when Virgil van Dijk eventually hangs up his boots (or moves on from Liverpool).
According to reports out of Portugal, The Reds are interested in 21-year-old Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande. The young defender also previously played with Danish club FC Midtjylland, I’m choosing to mention for no reason at all.
Diomande was a key player in Sporting’s League and Cup double, starting 29 league matches and 9 Champions League matches throughout the season.
He might be a promising young talent, but Liverpool probably don’t want to be shopping in the same market as the other Premier League clubs also linked, such as midtable club Crystal Palce or relegation battler Manchester United.
The fact that United are linked is especially interesting (though not for Liverpool), considering Amorim’s previous history with the player. Nothing quite screams confidence like leaning on trusted talent from a previous job.
This seems more like the kind of rumor where Liverpool are named for clicks, to be perfectly honest. But it sounds like a lovely reunion for Amorim and Diomande at United.
